Ralph Johnston Detroit, MI c.1940's 17.75" long
A pattern maker by trade, Ralph was a prolific decoy maker in the early to mid 20th century in the Detroit area. Even playing a part in the Ben Schmidt operation at a time. His decoys are nicely formed, have simple paint, and were likely very effective.
The large mallards are solid bodied with glass eyes and carved bill details such as nostrils, a mandible line, and is carved where the bill meets the face. The drakes head is slightly turned to the left. Both have their original keels.
Condition: Entirely original with light working wear. Tip of hens bill may have some very early working paint.
