The catalog record
A. Elmer Crowell (1862-1952) East Harwich, MA, c. 1910 A near, or possibly, extinct bird in the wild, Crowell lamented that Eskimo curlews, or "dough-birds" as hunters called them, had disappeared during his lifetime. They are by far the rarest of the curlew shorebirds that Elmer ever carved either in life-size or miniature. Identified as a "Eskimo Curlew" in pencil on the bottom. Outstanding original paint with the very tip of the tail lightly blunted.
