Joseph Lincoln Scoter Decoy

Joseph W. Lincoln (1859-1938) Accord, MA, c.1920 17.25" long

Referred to as the Coastal body style, few solid body white-wing scoters have surfaced in comparison to the far more popular and practical canvas and bailer style scoter. Regardless of how difficult the water or rugged the coastline, the other models would have proven a capable, more practical, and ultimately safer tool on the more dangerous coastal hunts.

The decoy bears classic Lincoln form. The head is back just slightly, and the eyes are large painted tacks. Underside nails from rigging are still there, the front and rear nail and washer appear to line up with the rigging visible on the Coastal scoter in Cap Vinal's book on Joe Lincoln.

Condition: Very good and mostly original paint. The white speculums may have some early in use strengthening. Neck has an old repair. Roughly penny size spot of touch up on the right cheek that appears to have been done at the time of the neck repair. Sliver of wood missing from the right tail edge. Bottom appears to have received an in use wash of black paint. Some small dents throughout.
