The catalog record
Verne Chessman (1897-1956) Macomb, IL, c. 1930 An early Illinois River maker, Chessman made decoys primarily for his own hunting use which makes them difficult to come by for modern collectors. Displays the maker's signature reared-back and cheeky-head carving with deep body form. Nice bill detail and no eyes. Appears to be thick original paint with light gunning wear; rubs to tail; some flaking down to gray primer; original weight has been removed.
