The catalog record
Captain Adam Hartung (1860-1909) Sandusky, OH, c. 1890 16 in. long
A rare and well-carved early pair of Ohio decoys with hollow bodies. Not only a carver, but also a fire captain, Hartung is believed to have used the time between alarms to make decoys. Hen appears to have original paint with appealing craquelure. Drake may be in an old second coat of paint and has wear to tail edge and cracked neck. Hen's bill has tight crack.
