The catalog record
Samuel Shute Cape May, NJ, c. 1880 This plover's form is amongst the most intriguing that we have come across. The square head, grooved cheeks, and raised wings give birds from this rig a distinguished look. The square head appearance of real plovers brought about the nicknames "bull-head" and "beetle-head" by market gunners. In original paint with minor gunning wear.
