This fine decoy is one of approximately a half-dozen Madara Canada geese known to exist. His geese are rarely found in any condition, and this example, with its exceptional form, detailed bill carving, eye grooves, full cheeks, pronounced breast, flowing long body, and raised “fin” tail carving, place it as one of his masterworks. The consignor's wife spotted this decoy and a mint Shourds black duck while dining at Tuckahoe Inn. The restaurant overlooks Great Egg Harbor Bay to Somers Point. The inn's proprietor was made an offer and after 5 years it was accepted, over many competing inquires. Original paint with even gunning wear and touch-up to reset neck cracks, crown, and tip of bill.
