William Cornell Rare Golden Plover
William Cornell Quogue, Long Island, c. 1890

The catalog record
William Cornell Quogue, Long Island, c. 1890 9 1/2 in. long
A plump and well-carved decoy with a pronounced "beetle head," incised eye carving, and nice beveled wing edges. Though decoys by this maker are few and far between, a small number of cork examples have surfaced, one of which is illustrated in "The Great Book of Wildfowl Decoys." Excellent original paint with even gunning wear.
