The catalog record
Jim Schmiedlin (1945-2015) Bradford Woods, PA c. 1980's 16.5" long
Very early working decoy for the maker, rescued from a burn pile roughly 5 years ago. Very rare hollow head, we are only aware of a handful that ever received this application, one being a Surf Scoter. With the practice removing an unnoticeable amount of weight and leading to another area for water damage it's believed by his fellow hunters only a small handful were ever made this way. Hollow carved body with an applied bottom board. Nicely sculpted with side pockets and wing details including a nicely detailed bill. Left with a rough cut surface to provide natural texture to the decoy. Bears Jim's iconic 'Reward for Return' painted label on the bottom.
Condition: Very good and original with working wear.
