John R. Wells (1861-1953) Toronto, Ontario, Canada, c. 1900 15 in. long
John R. Wells, like George Warin (1830-1905) (see lot 7), was a Toronto boat builder. This pintail represents Wells' finest grade of carving with pronounced head and tail features and excellent combed and blended paint.
The underside bears George W. Thompson's "G.W.T."-in-a-goose ink stamp. Strong original paint with even gunning wear and crack in tail.
