The catalog record
Walter Lowry (1878-1966) La Crosse, WI, c. 1920 Lowry is considered one of the finest painters of Wisconsin Decoys. Indeed, the paint applied by the maker to the hen is some of the most elaborate ever placed on a decoy. Both decoys are hollow and display the precision carving of a master craftman. Original paint with touch-up to flaking and light gunning wear. Drake has a neck crack and the hen's bill has been reset.
Literature: Donna Tonelli, "Fish and Fowl Decoys of the Great Lakes," Atglen, PA, 2002, p. 210, similar decoys illustrated.
