Josh Brewer Canvasback Drake

Josh Brewer (b. 1983) Little Deer Isle, Maine 15.5" long

Hollow carved Canvasback drake showcasing Josh's broad artistic abilities and interpretations in wood. The decoy relates to some of the early Atlantic coast influences, where wood grain and chip carved surfaces didn't appear as poor finish, rather provided texture and realism to the surface of the decoy to approaching fowl. The raised wings create a carved and beveled water drop shaped pocket on the backside. The head is detailed with an ornate bill and simple cut eyes. It is alert and raised, slightly turned to the right. The surface is mellowed with simple paint. The maker incised, 'J Brewer' into the bottom.
