Joseph Lincoln Outstanding Brant
Joseph Lincoln (1859-1938) Accord, MA, c. 1915

The catalog record
Joseph Lincoln (1859-1938) Accord, MA, c. 1915 One of the finest Lincoln brant decoys to come on the market in some time, this decoy has never been offered publicly and was acquired by the consignor's family from Alvin White of Sandwich, Massachusetts in the 1950s. White was considered the dean of the American gun engravers. In untouched "estate found" condition, with great head attitude, incised bill, nostril and mandible carving. The back of the bird displays beautiful wood grain, with original circular lead weight on the bottom.
In superb dry original paint with minor dings and rubs, hairline crack along the back of the bird filled by Lincoln and a hairline crack to one side. Typical age split along the underside extends roughly two inches into the breast and up towards the tail, ever-so-slight seam separation with minor flaking at the neck line, minor rub to bottom edge of body.
Provenance: Alvin White, Sandwich, Massachusetts William O. Sweet, Attleboro, Massachusetts, purchased from White c. 1950 Private Collection, Massachusetts, by descent to William O. Sweet's daughter
