This exceptional pair of mallards represents one of the rarest decoys and comes from one Leo McIntosh's personal competition rigs. Among a group of five mallards he crafted for his own competitive use, this pair includes the only known sleeping mallard hen McIntosh ever made. Upon entry, the rig immediately drew the attention of noted collector Preston Lowe, who promptly acquired it in its entirety. Selected directly from Lowe's collection, this pair features the rarest hen and the finest drake of the group.

Decoys made by McIntosh for his own competition use are exceedingly difficult to find, and this pair stands apart for its unique provenance and distinctive features. Unlike many of his other competition-style decoys, these were never branded, in adherence to competition regulations. The undersides and keels are marked with numerous weight attachment points, revealing McIntosh's meticulous adjustments in pursuit of achieving an ideal float for competition.

Both decoys are solid-bodied and showcase McIntosh's lifelike competition paint patterns. The hen displays bold "scratch" feather detailing, a signature feature believed to be exclusive to the hens from the Preston Lowe rig. The drake's refined paintwork and sleek form exemplify McIntosh's mastery in blending functionality with artistry. Condition: Very good with minimal 'working' wear from competition use.
