The catalog record

Mark S. McNair (b. 1950) Craddockville, VA, c. 1989 A loon decoy with an alert head and a leather tail. The tail, the beveled edge keystone weight and the leather anchor loop are all fastened with old copper flashing nails. The carving has a lightly incised bill and carved painted eyes. Incised "M. S. McNair" and an ink dedication on bottom: "Barrie, this is the first loon I've made since 1975. Hope you like it. Painting this was great fun. Your pal, Mark -1989." The bottom of the decoy reveals the original surface of an old beam, from which the decoy was carved. In excellent original condition.
