George Boyd (1873-1941) Seabrook, NH, c. 1920

The catalog record
George Boyd (1873-1941) Seabrook, NH, c. 1920 A very rare and charismatic Boyd pair displaying two dynamic poses. Much of Boyd's youth was spent in the surrounding marshes of Seabrook, New Hampshire, and Boyd’s time in the field undoubtedly inspired these carvings. The birds’ legs are set into birdseye maple bases. Both have applied heads and tack eyes. In original paint with some craquelure; both have professional repairs to bills. The crested bird has a very small rub to the right side and an age line at one leg joint; replaced crown. The other bird has a slight rub to the left side; age lines between putty on legs and body.
