Mark McNair Surf Scoter Drake

Mark McNair (b. 1950) Craddockville, VA, c. 1987 An over-sized, symmetrical preener with raised wings. Bottom has large keystone weight and is incised: "McNair, Grassy Key, 1987." This bird was made while visiting Joe French in the Florida Keys. This is believed to be the only preener by the artist carved entirely out of one piece of wood. The wood for this decoy was pulled from the bottom of a North Carolina lake. Original condition with an age crack along the bottom, an age line on one side of the neck and another atop the right wing.
