Eddie Gagne Mallard Drake

Edward "Eddie" Gagne (b.1986) Enosburg Falls, VT c.2024 17.25" long

Carved from Vermont atlantic white cedar and painted in tube oils. Gagne has borrowed interpretive styles from his native Vermont in makers like George Bacon to the Ward Brothers much farther south, creating his own unique style. An ardent sportsman who enjoys the nature and conservation of game he pursues and so makes his decoys for, are intended to be natural representations of their expressive states. His styling lends to unique postures, and in numbers, rigs that catch both the eye of the hunter and the bird, a defining feature for the proliferation of decoys as art today. Carving primarily for his own use on the shores of Lake Champlain, Gagne's output has been limited and allows him to refine each decoy for its intended use.

This hollow carved, slightly over sized, mallard drake is carved with a flowing posture, a petite pinched breast, and captivating expression. The decoy has vibrant paint, glass eyes, and painted bill detials with the head gently turned off to the right. The bottom bears the makers EPG monogram brand and is signed and dated.
