William Gibian (b. 1946) Onancock, VA, 2023 24 in. tall, 23 in. wide
Once the most abundant land bird species in North America, the last living passenger pigeon died in 1914, adding a poignancy to this dynamic carving. Both birds in this decorative arrangement are signed by the maker with an incised "GIBIAN" on the undersides and the bottom of the base bears his calling card with the maker's signature and an inscription. Original paint with light wear.
