George Soule Long Billed Curlew

George Soule (1912-1996) Freeport, ME c.1970's 26" long

George was the creator and carver behind L.L. Beans cork decoys that were proliferated through the 1940's and 1950's via their robust cataloguing operation.

Wonderfully sculpted and painted with relif carved wings and tail feathers. The inquisitive bird is in a feeding position with its head off to the left. The long metal bill is from an old pitch fork. Makers "GS" is branded under the tail Condition: Very good and original with minimal paint wear.
