Roy Conklin Cork Canada Goose

Roy A. Conklin, Jr. (1909-1967) Alexandria Bay, NY, c. 1940 19.5" long

Rare cork bodied goose by Roy, best known for his trendsetting paint jobs on his classic Alex Bay style decoys. The decoy is broad bodied with a thick tail, an alert wooden head and a 3/4" thick bottom board. The head has broad and shallow eye lines with deep bill carved details. The decoy was collected by Sampie Sutton, an Alex Bay area resident, river man, and grandson of Fairman Davis, who got the decoy directly from Roy.

Condition: Very good and original with generic age issues due to the cork body such as paint flaking, mostly on the breast, and cracking. Cork around the base of the head is slightly lose.
