This grand decorative carving is signed and dated by the maker on his business card, which is affixed to the underside. The card also identifies the species as an extinct passenger pigeon pair and a Brewer's black bird. With an appearance similar to an oversize mourning dove, the passenger pigeon was estimated to be the most abundant land bird species in North America. The world’s last passenger pigeon passed away at the Cincinnati Zoo in 1914. Original paint with light wear.
