Elmer Crowell Life-size Least Tern
A. Elmer Crowell (1862-1952) East Harwich, MA

The catalog record
A. Elmer Crowell (1862-1952) East Harwich, MA Exceptional carving with curvaceous raised primary and tail carving. This dainty carving, with slightly turned head, perfectly captures the attitude of these beautiful birds. The original bill is perfectly shaped, and the pronounced raised shoulder carving sweeps back towards the aforementioned tail. The “wet-on-wet” dry brush paint is subtly blended and shows Crowell at his best. The base is made to resemble a rock and has nicely blended paint. Bears Crowell’s rectangular stamp. Excellent original paint, minor restoration to small wing chip and minor touch up to edge of other wing.
