Mike Borrett Flying Bufflehead Pair

Wooden carved life-size matched pair with phenomenal sculptural detail employing the perfect mix of ornithological accuracy and folk art carving technique. Both have their hang points off-set so that they position in a highly realistic cupped wing fly by. His best flying wildfowl employ this off-center appearance. The rest of the sculpture is created around that image. The highly detailed extended feet hang off the body in the anticipation of landing. The legs have cut lines and tight checkered webbing between the toes. The wings are detailed throughout with deep carved primary flight feathers on the topside and scoop gouge carving on the front upper wing and whole wing underside. The heads are carved in replica of the species with the drake having a fluffy white tuft. Both have glass eyes and life-like bill carved details. The maker carved his last name and the year made into two flight feathers on the right wing of each bird.

Condition: Near mint. The hen is mint. Drake has a tight age seam line separation visible in the last two inches of his wings where they meet the body, they are firm and sturdy, otherwise it is also mint.
