John Blair Sr. (1843-1929) Philadelphia, PA, c. 1870 13 in. long
A rare species for the maker and the first of this model we have ever offered for sale at auction. The form and paint show the classic John Blair Sr. style and execution. The underside is stamped with a "JE" rig marking, as is the mallard hen, also offered in this auction (lot 109). Excellent original paint with light even gunning wear. Minor touch-up around each eye and thin line at base of bill on right side.
