Spencer Tinkham Black-crowned Night Heron

Spencer Tinkham (b. 1992) Norfolk, VA 20 in. tall

Copley is excited to introduce, for the first time at public auction, the work of Spencer Tinkham. He is a self-taught artist raised along the Virginia coast where he began carving at age 8. He quickly went on to win dozens of awards, including the youth world championships, while also establishing a broad following.

Spencer makes all of his oil paints from scratch using raw pigment powders. Most of his pieces are constructed entirely out of materials that are salvaged along bay and river shorelines.

Incised "Tink" signature on the underside. Descriptive narrative of origin of the materials used to create the carving is written on bottom of the base. Original paint with minimal wear.
