The catalog record
Sam Collins, Jr. (1854-1948) Essex, CT, c. 1900 Pronounced cheek carving and delicately rendered bill carving, glass shoe-button eyes. Thirteen holes have been drilled in the bottom and plugged with cork in the "brace and bit" manner to make the bird lighter and float more realistically, two circular lead poured weights, incised "NC" and branded "S.H. Tewksbury." Appears to be in dry original paint with some working touch-up, minor rubs to the top of the head, edge of the bill and tail, a few tight cracks on the underside.
