Luke is a third-generation decoy carver who learned waterfowl hunting and carving from his father, Mark Costilow, beginning at age ten. He quickly established himself in competition, earning placements at the Ward World Championship as a youth and eventually becoming one of the leading working-decoy competitors in the country.

Costilow has earned multiple Best of Show awards at the Ward World Championship, reporting eight by 2021 and nine by 2023, along with numerous other championship titles. He has also won Best of Show honors at major competitions including the Core Sound Decoy Festival, where he took Best of Show in 2013 with a black duck. Costilow has served as a judge at the Ward World Championship and continues to compete at the highest level.
