W.M. Oler Canada Goose Decoy

William M. Oler (1940-2015) Beach Haven, NJ 28" long

Rare and early working example of Williams work. Like his mentor Hurley Conklin, most of his later works were never used. This is believed to have come from a rig of Williams. The decoy has been hollowed out light and is in a hard to find swimming / feeding pose. There's a shallow ice groove in the back where the neck meets the body, and the wing tips are raised to a 'V' point. The fanned-out tail has nearly 16 angled cuts to mark feathers. The bottom is branded W.M. Oler. The surface has aged nicely from its periods of use.

Condition: Original with light gunning wear to include some paint tightening and rig line wear in the paint around the front of the breast.
