Ward Brothers The Johnson-ward Blue-winged Teal Pair

The Ward Brothers Lemuel T. (1896-1984) and Stephen (1895-1976) Crisfield, MD, 1962 10 1/2 in. long

"Made Special for Lloyd Johnson" is painted on the underside of both carvings. Johnson was not only one of the leading collectors of the mid-20th century, but he was also a leading decorative carver, alongside the Wards. The Wards seem to have risen to the occasion for their discerning collector; the paint, especially on the hen, is among the finest seen on any teal. The undersides of the hollow bodies are signed and dated by Lem. Excellent original paint with light wear.
