Bob Kerr Ruddy Duck Pair

Not to be confused with later and more commonly produced pieces by this maker, Bob's genuine competition birds are executed exceptionally well and are held in high regard. This pair took honorable mention at the 1965 National Decoy Show.

A talented carver and painter, Bob began whittling when he was in the 6th grade, carrying it on into his teenage years where he utilized his skills to make hunting decoys. Bob primarily sold his works to friends and family but as his skill grew, others began placing orders and he eventually began competing on the world stage. With a back log of orders and multiple accolades to his name, he quit his day job in 1975 to pursue carving full time. Bob is a 'Living Legend' with the Ward World Championship.

This pair exhibits the makers talent for anatomical accuracy and sculptural realism by imparting life-like motion and attitude into a still piece. The peacocking drake is proud of his plumage and the hen is curiously perusing. Both are sculpted beautifully exhibiting the pocketing seen on the surface of the birds with their wings tucked to their sides. Adding depth to the decoys, Bob deeply carved in speculum and wing tip feathering. Each individual feather is carved and inserted on the drakes fanned tail. Both birds have detailed bill carving and taxidermy glass eyes.

The bottoms carry the competition stickers with one reading "Ruddy Duck Honorable Men. National Decoy Show 1965 Bob Kerr Smith Falls Ont."
