Coffin Family Nantucket, MA, c. 1870 9 3/4 in. long
A two-piece golden plover in bright spring plumage with heavy gold stippling. Much of Nantucket's golden plover hunting was done in the uplands, rather than along the salty shoreline, helping to preserve very old examples such as this one. Original paint with gunning wear and a replaced bill.
