Keith Mueller Preening Black Duck

An exceptional 7x World Champion decoy and bird carver, Keith has a strong fascination with the elegance and simplicity of the working decoys created by the legendary Charles "Shang" Wheeler (1872-1949) of nearby Stratford, CT. Perhaps amongst Wheelers most iconic decoys were his preeners. With Keith's exceptional skillset and love for the heritage of decoys, he created the Mallard and Black duck offered in this sale which have been in private collection since being purchased directly from Keith.

The hollow carved black duck represents Wheelers best preening style with Muellers exceptional painting ability. The preening head is tucked firm against the body with the neck gracefully curling along the side. The bill is tucked into the feathers with the ever alert eyes of the resting bird wide open. The head is beautifully finished with hundreds of scratched feather marks and the body is elegantly finished with over 1,000 paint ticks delineating the feathers. The underside bears the 'Keith Mueller' signature brand and a classic tear drop lead weight.

Condition: Near mint with a very tiny and shallow indentation in the top left wing.
