The catalog record
John R. Wells (1861-1953) Toronto, ON, c. 1900 Displays Wells' best stippled and scratch-feather paint. This bird comes out of the same rig as the hen from our July 2006 Sporting Sale, lot 31. Stamped "JRW Maker" and stenciled "A.A.," possibly for Andrew Allen, a member of the Long Point Gun Club from 1875-1881.
In superb original paint, lightly hit by shot, with a few minor rubs to the top of the head and tail, cracked neck section has a single stabilizing nail that was a gunning repair. Bill is a professional restoration by Marty Hanson.
