The catalog record

Isaiah Jones Sandwich, MA, c. 1890 These shorebird decoys were found in one of the oldest homes on Cape Cod. The Hoxie House, built in 1637 overlooking Shawme Pond, is now a museum. In the 1960’s the Hoxie family sold their home to the Town Historical Society. These decoys were found in the rafters of the house and were packed up with other family possessions for almost fifty years.

The pair is of laminated wood construction with unique split tails and glass shoe button eyes. The paint has an unusual pattern, painted with small bundles of pine needles instead of brushes. In original paint; the feeder has an old tail chip and the runner has age lines along its neck and body seams.
