A. Elmer Crowell (1862-1952) East Harwich, MA c.1905 16.5" long

Charles W. Whittier was a Massachusetts sportsman and member of the Swan Island Club in Currituck Sound, North Carolina. The Swan Island Club was part of the celebrated waterfowling culture of Currituck Sound, where prominent sportsmen traveled to hunt the abundant wintering waterfowl of the region.

The Widgeon is an early carved, pre-brand, example with crossed wings, gouge carved feathering in the back, and carved tail feathers. Head is slightly turned to the right with a carved bill and rasping to the back of the head. Bottom is branded CW. Whittier and C.W.W.

Condition: Early professional restoration with original paint on bottom.
