Mike Borrett Flying Blue-winged Teal Pair

Wooden carved life-size matched pair of very well carved and painted blue-winged teal. Borrett does a phenomenal job employing the perfect mix of ornithological accuracy and folk art carving technique. Both have their hang points off-set so that they position in a highly realistic cupped wing fly by as they cruise through the marsh. His best flying wildfowl employ this off-center appearance. The rest of the sculpture is created around that image. The inserted carved wooden feet are tucked close to the body with the feet in a closed position. The tail feathers are carved and pointed close. The primary flight feathers are carved on the top sides of the wings with chip and gouge carving creating texture all over the remaining top and underside of the wing. The heads, in particular the bills, are carved with as close of detail as possible to match the species. Both have glass eyes. Borrett carved his name and the year made into one of the drakes flight feathers and in the center of the hens back.
