Mark McNair American Great Egret

Mark McNair (b. 1950) Craddockville, VA 35 1/2 in. long

"Anyone who has walked along a beach or marsh has likely seen a piece of driftwood and thought, 'that looks like a bird head.' This one looked like a bird head to me, and I kept it for years before releasing it." -Mark McNair

A grand decoy carving made with a red cedar "root head" with a dynamic pose. The hollow body was built with a vertical seam and pegged construction with no nails. The underside bears the maker's incised "McNair" signature. This is among the finest heron or egret carvings by any maker.

The original base is included. Original paint and wear.
