As ground-nesting birds, godwit will feign injury to lure predators from their eggs and young. Gibian has used this clever behavior to showcase his command of complex carving and painting details. This carving is signed by the maker with an incised "GIBIAN" on the underside. The bottom of the beveled base bears the maker's signed calling card. Original paint with light wear and minor scuff to base from loose left foot.
